The snapfire 8 is and 8 shot semiautomatic pistol. The trigger pull primes the spring, turns the turret and fires the dart. This is out in some countries but not in the US and hasbro has confirmed that it (and the stockade) will not be released in the US this year.
As you can see from this pic the snapfire 8 is actually powered by a extension spring rather than a compression spring. The spring can be adjusted by the knob on the bottom of the grip or by the switch in the grip.

This guy tends to get stuff early and does reliable range tests with a 100ft tape and is worth checking out if you want accurate ranges for stock blasters.
Here is a pic of the switch on the grip that controls spring tension. It looks to have 3 settings.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that in the Wired article found here there is mention of a semi-auto pistol named the "strife" slated to be released next fall. Although there isn't really a history of regional names for blasters the
